The challenge

Home Structures inspects houses across Southern Illinois and promises a full report within 24–48 hours. The inspection itself was never the bottleneck — the paperwork was. Findings and photos came back from the field and turned into evenings of copying, formatting, and assembling documents by hand, with generic inspection software that never quite matched the way the inspection was actually performed.

What we built

We started in the field rather than at a keyboard, following the real inspection route from foundation to roof. From that we designed a checklist-driven reporting tool built around that route: findings recorded once, photos attached where they happen, standard language reused instead of retyped, and a finished, client-ready PDF generated on the spot.

The outcome

Reports now leave with the inspector instead of eating the evening, and the format stays consistent from job to job. The tool worked well enough for one inspection company that we built it out for the whole industry — it is now available to inspectors everywhere as HIR Builder.

Do I need to know exactly what I want before contacting you?

No — most people don't, and that's normal. Plenty of projects start with "this part of our work is painful and I'm not sure what would fix it." Figuring that out is what the Discovery Sprint is for, and the first conversation costs you nothing.

How much does custom software cost?

It depends entirely on scope, which is why we do not publish a price list. A focused internal tool is a very different project from a multi-user application with integrations and reporting. What we can promise is that you will have a written scope and a fixed price in hand before any development starts — no hourly meter running in the background.

How long does a project take?

A discovery engagement typically runs a couple of weeks. A first working version of a focused tool is often a matter of weeks rather than months, and larger systems get broken into phases so you get something usable early instead of waiting for one big launch at the end.

Who owns the code when the project is done?

You do. You get the source code, the repository, and the hosting and service accounts in your own name. We would like you to keep working with us because the work is good, not because you are locked in.

We already have a system that half-works. Can you take it over?

Yes. Rescue and modernization work is a regular part of what we do — inherited codebases, unfinished builds, and systems whose original developer is long gone. We start with an assessment of what exists, then give you an honest recommendation on whether to repair it, extend it, or replace it.

Do you only work with businesses in Southern Illinois?

We are based in Southern Illinois and enjoy working with businesses nearby, but the work itself is remote-friendly. Discovery, reviews, and training all happen just as well over video calls, and we work with clients wherever they are.

What happens after the software launches?

Every project build includes a post-launch support period for fixes and adjustments. After that you can move to an ongoing partnership for continued development and maintenance, or simply reach out when you need something — there is no requirement to keep paying a retainer.

Will you work alongside our existing IT provider or developer?

Absolutely. We regularly build tools that plug into systems maintained by someone else, and we are happy to coordinate on access, deployment, and handoff so nothing gets broken along the way.
